Paoli is the largest town in Tredyffrin Township. There are a high concentration of buildings from the 1880-1910 period in the borough. The Paoli Battlefield and Paoli Memorial Grounds in Malvern are important historical sites. The famous Paoli Massacre or Battle of Paoli took place in Malvern in 1777. Paoli Station was the original end of the old Main Line. Expansion has pushed the current end of the line to Downingtown. The station and the town gets their name from the famous Corsican general, Pasquale di Paoli. Today, Paoli remains an important Septa commuter stop and a major station for Amtrak in the Philadelphia suburbs. It is 21 miles from Suburban Station in center city Philadelphia. Paoli is home to the Delaware Valley Friends School
